This command is only useful if you have read in two data arrays, for example, data and background files. This command defines which data array will be used in future commands. Thus the sequence 'Use Back; P' will cause the background array to be plotted. Use Sub will compute Data-Back*tdata/tback, i.e., the background subtracted data array.
